Reflecting on My Journey: Growth as a Reader, Writer, and Advocate

As the quarter comes to a close, I find myself reflecting on the valuable insights and skills I have gained in reading, writing, and advocacy. This blog page serves as a testament to my growth and learning throughout the course. Let me take you through my journey and share the key points that have shaped my understanding and development.

Throughout the quarter, I have learned the importance of close reading and critical analysis. By engaging with various texts, both literary and academic, I have honed my ability to extract deeper meanings, identify literary devices, and discern the underlying messages. My understanding of different writing styles and structures has also grown, enabling me to express my thoughts more effectively. Through this I was able to do research and analyze different reading materials. Thus i was able to write about “Connecting Personal Insights with Secondary Research” in line to the LGBTQ rights movement blog post site. This helped in enriching my blog post by creating compelling narratives that are backed by factual evidence, to help capture my reader’s attention, comprehension, foster empathy and encourage them to take action or support the cause.

My learning process was enhanced through various assignments, each designed to challenge and expand my skills. The literary analysis task stands out as a turning point; as it needed me to analyze both primary sources and non-academic sources and connect them to the secondary source that was aligned to my social justice writing. Achieving this exercise made me realize how I could use evidence and examples from the text to support my arguments cohesively. Additionally, coming up with a blog post in line to this allowed me to delve into various perspectives and develop a more nuanced understanding of complex issues. Thus, exploring multiple perspectives and complex issues in my blog post not only enhanced my reading and writing skills but it also nurtured my critical thinking, research abilities, empathy and analytical writing. As a result this made me realize that I can communicate effectively with my audience and contribute thoughtfully to discussions on diverse topics in class.

The UWP Learning Outcomes have been instrumental in guiding my progress along with the course-specific goals. By reliably alluding to them, I perceived the meaning of clear and brief composition, the capacity to draw in with different audiences, and the significance of utilizing proof to help my cases. For example, exploring different avenues regarding and considering composing processes has constantly further developed my composing abilities, versatility to various composing assignments, using time effectively, imagination, critical abilities to think, self-revelation, certainty, strength, and progressing learning. Hence, by participating in these cycles and thinking about my encounters, I have become more compelling, sure, and effective in my composing attempts, both scholastically and expertly. Therefore,  my work this quarter has aligned with these outcomes including the formulation of my blog post website, allowing me to gauge my growth as a writer and civil rights advocate.

As I reflect myself as a reader and a writer, I have found a recently discovered enthusiasm for utilizing my words to advocate for civil rights and correspondence. All through this course, I have perceived how words have the ability to challenge points of view, bring issues to light, and rouse change. Through perusing, I have had the option to run over various proficient materials that have empowered me to take care of business. Subsequently, by composing my blog entries, I have had the option to advocate for LGBTQ social liberties. Thus, I aim to continue advocating for marginalized voices and shedding light on pertinent issues through my writing.

This growth will undoubtedly be beneficial for my future as both a student and an individual. In other classes, I can apply my refined reading and writing skills to excel academically. Moreover, as I engage with a diverse range of perspectives, my ability to empathize and be an effective ally will help create a more inclusive learning environment. Therefore, engaging with perspectives that are diverse is crucial for empathy development, challenging biases, critical thinking promotion, fostering inclusivity, nurturing allyship, and enhancing cultural competence. All of these aspects are building blocks for an inclusive learning environment and aids in the promotion of unity and comprehension among students and educators like me.

My ability to create engrossing narratives that connect with readers is one of my best abilities as a result of this program. I've come to see how crucial storytelling is for establishing connections with others and starting critical conversations. I want to keep honing this ability going forward to write even more powerfully.

However, I also recognize the need to work on maintaining consistency in my writing style and refining my grammar and syntax. To address this, I plan to seek feedback from peers and instructors, actively participate in writing workshops, and dedicate time to practice writing regularly. For instance, after writing my blog posts on LGBTQ Civil Rights, I used to share the links to my website with different peers and instructors. Thus, following these steps are essential in my writing journey as they improve my craft via enhancement, confidence, creativity and mindset growth.

Key takeaways from this class include the value of diversity in perspectives and the importance of listening to marginalized voices. By understanding different lived experiences, I can enrich my writing and be more empathetic in my advocacy efforts. Embracing diversity and understanding different lived experiences has been transformative for my writing and advocacy efforts in the realm of LGBTQ civil rights. By immersing myself in the rich tapestry of LGBTQ stories, I have deepened my empathy, amplified marginalized voices, and built empowering narratives of resilience and hope. These skills will not only benefit me in my academic journey but also contribute to a more compassionate and inclusive society.

In conclusion, throughout this transformative quarter, I've become a more critical reader, effective writer, and passionate advocate. Analyzing various texts and writing assignments honed my discerning eye, considering multiple perspectives. Writing workshops and feedback enhanced my ability to convey empathy and advocacy. I've realized that my writing can drive change, creating awareness and inspiring action on topics like LGBTQ civil rights. Equipped with newfound skills, I'm eager to embrace new challenges and broaden my understanding of the world. My commitment to ethical writing allows me to uplift marginalized voices and address societal issues. This journey empowers me to make a meaningful impact through my words.
